Lab: Wind Farm App in 3D using Machine Learning

Description

This lab further develops an existing app for Android and iOS for the planning of wind farms. A dialogue tool is created in which citizens can participate right from the beginning of the planning phase of a new wind farm with the help of an online tool as an app. Beside displaying economical and ecological benefits of the wind farm, the tool uses Augmented Reality or Virtual Reality to visualize the planned wind turbines, planned sound-proof walls, shadow cast and the sound propagation of the wind farm.

Requirements

We will work in sub-groups which all have an inter-connection. The different subgroups will target

  • XR-Gamification development
  • AR tool development
  • Algorithms development
  • App development with Frontend and Backend

The XR and AR tools are written for the game engine Unity. Previous knowledge on Unity would be ideal, but is not necessarily required. Programming knowledge in C# is a requirement, additional knowledge in Machine Learning is needed.

For algorithm development, additional knowledge in Python is needed for the simulation.

For the App development knowledge in Vue, Typescript, Ionic, GraphQL and iOS is needed, while for the backend mainly Python and MongoDB is needed.

Organization

We will have weekly online meetings where we discuss the work done in the week and plan ahead for the next week. We are looking for people that like to work in a team, but are capable to solve problems on their own if necessary. If you are interested, please state your experience for the above technologies and give feedback in which subgroup you would love to work.
